The dream
of my life came true on July 8th 2018 at Bristol Cricket Ground,
where I got an opportunity to watch a T20 cricket match between India and
England. The moment is still alive in my thoughts while I write this post.
As part of
our International Immersion program we have been to London for 50 Days, coincidentally
India Tour of England also took place in the same period. The game was scheduled
on a Sunday and it’s the 3rd T20I which is the decider match of the
T20 series.
The
magnificent form of India in the shorter formats continues. Can't remember when
India last lost a T20I series. But this match was all about two men - Hardik
Pandya and Rohit. And it was fitting that the duo were there at the end as
India won in a hurry. The game was won and lost in the middle overs of the
England innings when they stumbled against Hardik. 220 was minimum on this
national highway but England were at least 25 short and that gave India the
momentum in the chase. And then Rohit turned up. I will stick my neck out and
say that he is a more of a match-winner than Kohli in shorter formats in recent
times. And I love a controversy. So that's that.
The chase
was a canter and once Rohit found his mojo against the short ball, there was no
looking back and stopping him. The short dimensions of the ground helped India
a great deal as well.
The
experience of witnessing a match live in England is so exorbitant along with the
trademark smoked chicken in the stands. The crowd was
amazingly sportive they mainly here to support the sport than to support a
specific nation.
Dhoni with Ziva
The match
presentation was nerve biting especially to see MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli from
such a close distance and witness the Indian team celebrating the series win
with Champagne in the ground. I have followed the team till they reach the
dressing room stayed there to live each and every moment till Indian team left
the ground in their Team bus.
Team India Celebrations
The last
moment before leaving Bristol was one more epic where I crossed Marriot hotel where
two team are staying and had a chance to watch both the team in the lobby area
of the hotel and I was standing still watching all the superstars at a single
place, I was not able to come out of that excitement even after watching them
play, watch then closely while series
final presentations were going on and also stayed at dressing room till they
left. I felt still the cricket lover in me need some more moments to finally
finish the dream run at Bristol before o board a bus back to London.
